Hillsboro, Ore. - The race for the 2021-22 McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports trophy is back underway after a two-year pause and Pacific Lutheran University leads the Northwest Conference after wrapping up the fall season with 90 points.
The Lutes earned Northwest Conference titles in both men's and women's soccer and finished second in both men's cross country and women's volleyball to add to their point total, giving them a five-point edge over George Fox for the top spot. The Bruins brought home an NWC Championship title in both men's and women's cross country and finished at the number two spot in football to give them 85 points for second-place.
Pacific (Ore.) earned the third-place spot with 67 total points. The Boxers were the conference runners-up in women's cross country and finished third in football. Whitworth lands in the number four spot with 64 points as they won the NWC title in women's volleyball. Puget Sound finished the fall with 60 points for fifth-place as the Loggers were NWC runners-up in women's soccer. Lewis & Clark finishes sixth overall in fall standings with 55 total points. The Pioneers had third-place finishes in both men's and women's cross country and a fourth-place finish in women's soccer.
Willamette (39 points), Whitman (38 points), and Linfield (34 points) round out the 2021-22 McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports trophy fall standings. Willamette edged Whitman by one point, recording a second-place finish in men's soccer, while the Blues finished third in men's soccer. Linfield earned the NWC title in football for 2021.
The Northwest Conference All-Sports Trophy recognizes athletic excellence among Northwest Conference institutions across all fields of competition. It is named in honor of John Lewis, the baseball coach (1947-72), basketball coach (1947-67) and athletics director (1952- 72) at Willamette University; and Jane McIlroy, Linfield College's women's athletics director and physical education professor from 1950-82 who also coached field hockey (1952-81), basketball, volleyball, softball and tennis.
