Hillsboro, Ore. - Whitworth University earns the 2014-15 Northwest Conference McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports trophy after the conclusion of the spring season.
The Pirates earned an NWC championship title in men's golf, softball, men's track & field and women's track & field for a total of 268 points for their eighth-straight McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports trophy.
The University of Puget Sound finished second with 214 points, taking home the inaugural NWC title in women's rowing. Pacific Lutheran University earned the NWC Championship crown in baseball, helping lead the Lutes to a third-place finish in the standings with 206 points. Willamette University edged Whitman College, 195-192 for fourth place. The Missionaries earnd the fifth spot, adding NWC titles to the record books in both men's and women's tennis.
Linfield College (186 pts.), George Fox (172 pts.), Pacific University (169 pts.) and Lewis & Clark College (144 pts.) round out the final spots in the McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports trophy standings. The Bruins made the biggest jump after the winter season with an NWC championship crown in women's golf and a second-place finish in both men's and women's track & field, while the Boxers won the NWC inaugual women's lacrosse title.
The Northwest Conference All-Sports Trophy recognizes athletic excellence among Northwest Conference institutions across all fields of competition. It is named in honor of John Lewis, the baseball coach (1947-72), basketball coach (1947-67) and athletics director (1952- 72) at Willamette University; and Jane McIlroy, Linfield College's women's athletics director and physical education professor from 1950- 82 who also coached field hockey (1952-81), basketball, volleyball, softball and tennis.
