Winter Standings: Whitworth Leads 2023-2024 McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports Trophy Race

Hillsboro, Ore. - Whitworth University leads the Northwest Conference in the reace for the 2023-2024 McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports Trophy after wrapping up the winter season with 143 points.

The Pirates increased their lead in the standings after being crowned Northwest Conference champions in men's swimming and men's basketball. Whitworth also finished in third place in women's swimming and tied for fifth in women's basketball. The Whitman Blues had a very successful winter season to land in second place with 118 points. The Blues were the NWC champions in women's swimming, co-champions in men's basketball, runner-ups in men's swimming, and tied for second in women's basketball. 

Pacific Lutheran sits just behind Whitman with 112 points. The Lutes finished fourth in women's swimming, seventh in men's swimming, tied for sixth in men's basektball, and eigth in women's basketball. Puget Sound finished fourth following the winter season with 99 points. The Loggers finished third in men's swimming, fifth in women's swimming, tied for third in men's basketball, and fourth in women's basketball. 

George Fox earned 96 points for fifth following the winter. The Bruins tied for sixth in men's basketball, tied for fifth in women's basektball, eigth in men's swimming, and seventh in women's swimming. Willamette landed just behind with 94 points after winning the NWC women's basketball regular season title. The Bearcats finished tied for third in men's basketball, fifth in men's swimming, and sixth in women's swimming. Linfield sits in seventh following the winter season with 92 points. The Wildcats were runner-ups in women's swimming, fourth in men's swimming, eigth in men's basketball, and tied for fifth in women's basketball. 

Lewis & Clark and Pacific (Ore.) rounded out the standings tied for eigth with 72 points. 

The Northwest Conference All-Sports Trophy recognizes athletic excellence among Northwest Conference institutions across all fields of competition. It is named in honor of John Lewis, the baseball coach (1947-72), basketball coach (1947-67) and athletics director (1952- 72) at Willamette University; and Jane McIlroy, Linfield College's women's athletics director and physical education professor from 1950-82 who also coached field hockey (1952-81), basketball, volleyball, softball and tennis.
