Hillsboro, Ore. – George Fox University has captured the title in the race for the Northwest Conference McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports Trophy after wrapping up the spring season with 262 points.
The Bruins were Northwest Conference champions in men's tennis, women's golf, women's lacrosse, and men's and women's track and field. They also placed second in softball, third in men's golf, tied for third in baseball, and finished fourth in women's tennis. This gave the Bruins a 14-point edge over the Lutes for the top spot. Pacific Lutheran brought home a NWC Championship title in women's rowing and placed second in men's and women's track and field. They finished third in softball, tied for third in baseball, tied for third in women's golf, fourth in men's golf, seventh in men's tennis and eighth in women's tennis to give them 248 points for second place.
Whitworth earned the third-place spot with 224 total points. The Pirates finished second in men's and women's golf and placed third in men's and women's track and field and women's tennis. The Pirates landed in fifth place in men's tennis, fourth place in softball, sixth place in women's lacrosse and ninth place in baseball. Pacific (Ore.) landed in fourth with 198 points, while Linfield placed fifth with 193 points. The Boxers were NWC co-champions in baseball and placed second in men's tennis. The Wildcats captured the NWC crown in both softball and women's tennis and were co-champions in baseball.
Puget Sound finished sixth with 183 points, Whitman came in seventh with 165 points, Lewis & Clark placed eighth with 155 points, while Willamette rounded out the standings with 128 points. The Loggers placed second in women's rowing, the Blues' top finish was second place in women's tennis, the Pios' spring season was highlighted by a third-place finish in women's rowing and a fourth-place finish in men's tennis. Willamette was crowned NWC Champions in men's golf and finished second in women's lacrosse.
The Northwest Conference All-Sports Trophy recognizes athletic excellence among Northwest Conference institutions across all fields of competition. It is named in honor of John Lewis, the baseball coach (1947-72), basketball coach (1947-67) and athletics director (1952- 72) at Willamette University; and Jane McIlroy, Linfield College's women's athletics director and physical education professor from 1950-82 who also coached field hockey (1952-81), basketball, volleyball, softball and tennis.
