Stewart & Higgins Named NWC Cross Country Student-Athletes of the Week

The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week in Cross Country for the week of August 31st through September 8th.
 

Women’s Cross Country - Student-Athlete of the Week
Ava Stewart I Lewis & Clark | FY | Seattle, Wash. | Garfield

Stewart led all NCAA DIII runners at the Lewis & Clark XC Opener on Friday. The first year placed 16th out of 44 runners to lead Lewis & Clark and finish behind only runners from NCAA DI Portland State University and NAIA Lewis-Clark State. She crossed the line in 19:52.1 to finish 22.1 seconds ahead of the top-finisher from Pacific Lutheran University. Stewart's time was the 33rd-fastest 5K time by a women's first year in program history.

 

Men’s Cross Country - Student-Athlete of the Week
Quinn Higgins I Lewis & Clark | SR | Denver, Colo. | Denver East

Higgins finished second overall to help lead Lewis & Clark to their first team win since 2017. The senior placed second out of 48 runners and crossed the line just 2.2 seconds behind the winner from NCAA DI Portland State University. He notched a career-best 5K time of 15:03.9. The River Otters defeated a field of five teams at the Lewis & Clark XC Opener that included Portland State, NAIA Lewis-Clark State University and Pacific Lutheran University. The victory marked Lewis & Clark's first win at a non-dual meet since 2011.
