Walla Walla, Wash.– Top-seeded Whitman and second-seeded Whitworth will meet in the Northwest Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament championship match after semifinal wins on Saturday, April 18, at the Whitman Tennis Courts. The final is set for Sunday, April 20th, at 12:00pm., with the winner earning the NWC’s automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Tournament.
Whitman rolled to a 4-1 victory over No. 4 George Fox in the first semifinal. The Blues earned the doubles point with quick wins on courts two and three, as Gloria Luo and Sascha Wells won 6-0 and Bailey Bell and Juliene Thompson followed with a 6-1 victory.
In singles, Whitman clinched the match with straight-set wins from Gloria Luo (No. 6), Bailey Bell (No. 5), and Nana Vang (No. 1). George Fox’s Shanah Denham earned the lone point for the Bruins with a straight set win on No. 2.
In the second semi-final match of the day, second-seeded Whitworth claimed the doubles point with wins from Faith Kert and Clara Todd on No.1 and Olivia Corbett and Audrey Judson on No. 3. In singles, Faith Kert took the first win on No.2 for the Pirates, while teammate Jordan Turner earned another straight set win on court No. 3. In a thrilling No.1 matchup, Paige Oliver of Whitworth earned the final point in order to send the Pirates to the NWC championship finals.
