Men
The Willamette Bearcats and the Whitman Blues are once again projected to be leading contenders on the men’s side. Over the past three seasons, the two programs have consistently battled for the top spot in the NWC standings, with Willamette claiming the overall NWC Champion title last spring. Willamette earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and finished 17th at the NCAA Championships. The Bearcats captured both the NWC Fall and Spring Classics last year and placed second—just behind host Linfield—at the NWC Championship. Whitman, meanwhile, earned top-three finishes in all three conference tournaments and secured the 2024 NWC title.
This season, both teams have maintained that high standard, each winning two events and never finishing lower than second place. In their lone head-to-head matchup, Willamette (-6) edged Whitman (Even) by six strokes to win the Pacific Invitational, which featured 13 teams. George Fox (+8), Lewis & Clark (+11), and Pacific Lutheran (+12) rounded out the top five.
Women
The George Fox women’s squad enters the tournament as the team to beat, having captured 12 straight Northwest Conference Championships. The Bruin women claimed victory at all three NWC tournaments in the 2024-25 season, and finished fourth in the nation at the Division III Championships. Their squad is off to another solid start this year, placing first of six NWC teams at the Pacific Invitational (October 4–5). First-year standout Ashlyn Johnson (+9) and junior Sofia Itziar Ayesa (+14) led the way, placing second and third respectively among 50 golfers over the two-day competition and earning a team score of (+54).
The Whitman Blues follow close behind the Bruins– taking second place at each of the NWC Tournaments the year prior. Pacific University (Ore.) and Whitworth University have each earned top-four finishes in the women’s standings over the past two seasons. At this year’s Pacific Invitational, Whitworth (+74) and Pacific (+90) took third and fourth place, following closely behind Lewis & Clark College (+70).
