Pernsteiner & Matsushima Named NWC Women’s Volleyball Student-Athletes of the Week

The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week in Women’s Volleyball for the week of August 31st through September 8th.

Women’s Volleyball - Offensive - Student-Athlete of the Week

Pernsteiner led the Lutes in both kills and blocks last week, helping the team go 4-1 with the lone loss a five set heartbreak to No. 1 and defending national champion UW-Oshkosh. Pernsteiner had double digit kills against both Franklin & Marshall and UWRF. Had 47 total kills across the five matches, averaging 2.5 kills per set while collecting 14 blocks with a .340 hitting percentage. 

 

Women’s Volleyball - Defensive - Student-Athlete of the Week

Matsushima led the Lutes' defense in a week the team went 4-1, including wins over NCAA Tournament qualifier Franklin & Marshall and NWC Co-Champion Puget Sound. Matsushima averted 5.3 digs per set, getting double digit digs in all five matches. That included 27 in a three set sweep of F&M and 27 again in a five-set setback to #1 and defending national champion UW-Oshkosh. Also led the team with 13 aces.
