The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week in Tennis for the week of February 3rd through February 9th.
Women’s Tennis - Student-Athlete of the Week
Susanna Anand I Lewis & Clark | SR | Troutdale, Ore. | Corbett
Anand went 2-0 on Saturday to help Lewis & Clark snap a nine-game losing streak against George Fox University. The senior earned wins at number one singles and number one doubles in the 4-3 victory. She posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Riley Bobkiewic at first singles. In doubles play, she teamed up with junior Charlotte Makoni for a 6-3 win as Lewis & Clark swept all three doubles points. The match victory marked the first Lewis & Clark win over George Fox since March 7, 2020.
Men’s Tennis - Student-Athlete of the Week
Aiden Cruz I George Fox | FR | Bend, Ore. | Caldera
Cruz helped George Fox win their first conference match of the season against Lewis & Clark, taking down Wade McDermott in the No. 5 singles matchup and winning handily in two sets, 6-2, 6-4. Cruz was also instrumental in securing the doubles point, teaming up with Zach Moore in the No. 2 doubles match in a decisive 6-3 victory. In the Bruins’ first regular-season contest, despite the loss, the freshman found himself up against DI opponent Portland State, pushing the No. 3 singles challenger, Ignacio Ruiz, to the brink in a 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) match.
