Women’s Tennis - Student-Athlete of the Week
Gracie Smyley I Whitworth | SR | Whitefish, Mont. | Whitefish
Smyley won both of her singles matches and one doubles match this weekend against Pacific and Willamette. On Saturday, she won 6-0, 6-3 in the #2 singles match. On Sunday, she won 6-0, 6-2 in the #1 singles match. Smyley lost 6-4 in her #1 doubles match on Saturday before winning the #1 doubles match 6-1 on Sunday.
Men’s Tennis - Student-Athlete of the Week
Ikuho Ebisu I George Fox | JR | Wakayama, Japan | Hashimoto Hatsushiba
Ebisu went a perfect 4-0 on the weekend, picking up two singles wins and two doubles wins against Lewis and Clark and Puget Sound. In doubles play, Ebisu teamed up with Lars Schmassmann in the No. 1 spot, taking down Jason Rowe and Will Church of UPS 6-4. They followed that up with a dominant 6-2 win over Wade McDermott and Kai Wills of LC on Sunday - a doubles team that made it to the ITA doubles semifinals in the fall. In singles play, Ebisu defeated Puget Sound's No.3 singles Carson Ward 6-3, 6-1, before beating reigning NWC Student-Athlete of the Week Matt Chio 6-7, 6-2, 6-1, to hand Chio his first singles loss in six games.
