The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week in Swimming for the week of December 2nd through December 8th.
Women’s Swimming - Student-Athlete of the Week
Megan Bonikowsky I Whitworth | SO | Nelson, B.C. | LV Rogers Secondary
Bonikowsky had a huge meet at the 2025 Logger Invitational, helping lead the Whitworth women to the team championship over Simon Fraser, Puget Sound and Southwest Oregon CC. She won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:19.56, hitting an NCAA B qualifying mark and setting a school record. She also was third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:11.76), fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.18) and fifth in the 200-yard I.M. (2:10.22). In addition, she led off the 4x100 freestyle relay with an official split of 52.77, which is the best time in the NWC this season. All of her individual times are personal records and all rank among the top-four in the NWC. Her 200 breaststroke time leads the conference by 3.5 seconds.
Men’s Swimming - Student-Athlete of the Week
Sam Lyon I Puget Sound | SO | Los Altos, Calif. | Los Altos
Lyon had one of the best weekends of his career at the Logger Invitational, placing in the top 3 in each of his four individual events. He started out his weekend as the top NWC finisher in the 500 freestyle, then went on to break not one, but two school records on Day 2 of the Invite. He broke the 100 butterfly school record in the prelims with a time of 49.77, and then broke his own record in the finals with a time of 49.46. The previous record has been standing since 1987, and Lyon now holds the top time in the NWC this season. Lyon also set a top NWC Time in both the 1650 Freestyle and the 200 Butterfly to cap off his weekend.
