Binder & Wills Named NWC Tennis Student Athletes of the Week

HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week in Tennis for the week of April 8th through April 15th. 

Women’s Tennis- Student-Athlete of the Week
Sydnie Binder I Pacific | SR | Beaverton, Ore. | Beaverton

Binder improved to 15-0 in both singles and doubles over the weekend to lead the Boxers to the Northwest Conference women's tennis tournament for the first time since 2010 when the postseason included six teams.

Sunday morning in her final home match, Binder won 6-1, 6-0 at 2 singles against Lewis & Clark. She teamed up with her sister to win 8-2 at 1 doubles. Pacific won the crucial match 7-2 to secure its spot in the NWC tournament. 

Saturday against George Fox, Binder won 6-4, 6-0 at singles and 8-4 at doubles. 

Men’s Tennis- Student-Athlete of the Week
Kai Wills I Lewis & Clark | SO | Benicia, Calif.  | Benicia

Wills went 4-0 on the weekend to help the Pioneers clinch their 10th-straight Northwest Conference Tournament berth and their highest finish in the league since 2018. The sophomore went 2-0 at second doubles and second singles in 6-3 victories over Linfield and Pacific. He combined with sophomore Wade McDermott for an 8-4 win over Linfield and then the duo outlasted Pacific’s Alex Kinoshita and Aidan Rooney 8-7 (7-1). In singles play, Wills earned a 6-3, 6-1 win on Saturday and a comeback 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory on Sunday. He wraps up the regular-season leading Lewis & Clark with 22 total victories.
