Women’s Tennis- Student-Athlete of the Week
Jin Yu I Whitman | JR | Portland, Ore. | Sunset
Yu won in singles and doubles in a 5-4 loss to UC Santa Cruz...won at doubles to salvage a point for the Blues then won in straight sets (6-0, 6-4) in No. 1 singles.
Men’s Tennis- Student-Athlete of the Week
Aidan Rooney I Pacific | JR | Mililani, Hawaii | Hawaii Technology Academy
Rooney got the Boxers lone win on Saturday at the 4 singles position against a strong opponent in UC Santa Cruz. Rooney took a convincing 1 set lead but UCSC's Ben Wang stormed back to tie the match at 1 set and force a third set. Rooney quickly battled his way to a 5-2 lead but faced cramps in his legs, forearms, and hands. Wang forced a tiebreaker at 6-6 and even found himself a few match points. But Rooney found enough energy to power through the last tiebreaker, ultimately winning the match 6-3 2-6 7-6 (6).
