HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week in swimming for the week of January 24th to January 30th.
Women’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week
Emma Thompson | Whitworth | FR | Spokane, WA | Mead High School
Emma won the 100-backstroke on Friday against NCAA DI Seattle University with a time of 57.67, which is just off her pool record of 57.14 set in November. She also led off the winning 200 freestyle relay against Seattle U (1:43.16) and finished second in the 200 freestyle with a season-best 1:58.38. On Saturday against Whitman, she did break the pool record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.70, under he own previous mark of 2:06.92. She also won the 200 I.M. in 2:10.02 and led off the winning 400 medley relay to a time of 4:06.38.
Men’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week
Zachary Washburn | Whitworth | FR | Moses Lake, WA | Moses Lake High School
On Saturday against Whitman, Zachary set Megan E. Thompson Aquatic Center records in both the 50 freestyle (20.96) and 100 freestyle (45.66). The time in the 100 edged Whitman standout Tanner Fillion and broke a facility record that had stood since the 1986 NAIA Championship meet (46.33). Zach also led off the winning 400 medley relay to a time of 3:28.15. On Friday against NCAA DI Seattle University, he anchored the winning 200 medley relay to a time of 1:33.71. He was second to a pair of NCAA DI swimmers in the 200 freestyle (1:42.03) and 100 backstroke (52.63), but both of those times were his season-best mark.
