HILLSBORO, Ore. – Lewis & Clark Director of Athletic Communications Ryan Goff was selected by his peers as the 2020 Jack Sereault Sports Information Director of the Year award winner.
Goff joined the Lewis & Clark staff as Interim Sports Information Director in August 2015 and became the Director of Athletic Communications in March 2016. He oversees all athletic communications efforts for Lewis & Clark's 19 varsity sports.
"Ryan goes above and beyond to provide an excellent experience for Lewis & Clark student-athletes & their families and it is demonstrated daily by the quality of work he produces," says Lewis & Clark Interim Director of Athletics Mark Pietrok. "It is fantastic to see his tireless efforts being recognized."
In addition, Goff has served as the play-by-play voice for Pioneers football and basketball since 2014. His time as the "Voice of the Pioneers" also includes the 2010-11 season, which is the year he helped revamp the athletic department's video streaming service, renaming it PioStream.
"The NWC has an impressive collection of athletic communications people who have been so kind and helpful to me," Goff said. "The Jack Sareault Award is a reflection of a collective effort, and anything that we did well this year is because of Claudia Loeber, who has been an incredible addition to our staff. She is creative, artistic and rises to the challenges each day."
Says Lewis & Clark Assistant Sports Information Director Claudia Loeber, "Ryan is really a pleasure to work for. He's empathetic, thoughtful, and intentional about the work. He cares deeply about the student-athletes and works hard to make the athletic department a welcoming community for anyone who passes through it. He is quick to share credit for his successes and his resourcefulness makes him an invaluable resource for the school."
Goff has been a public communications professional for over 20 years after starting in radio when he was 16 years old. He has broadcast games for the University of Oregon, Portland Lumberjax, Northwest Christian University, Oregon Tech, the OSAA Radio Network and radio stations in Medford and Eugene, Oregon.
"Ryan pours his heart and soul into promoting our student-athletes, our staff and Lewis & Clark College," said Lewis & Clark Associate Director of Athletics Sharon Sexton. "He is always thinking outside the box, looking for creative solutions and ways to do things differently and, ultimately, better. He is incredibly deserving of this peer recognition and award."
"Lewis & Clark is an amazing place with a stunning campus and is so unique among our conference because of our Portland location," said Goff. "The opportunity for our student-athletes to build meaningful relationships through a liberal arts environment that is truly experiential produces so many storytelling opportunities. Our student-athletes have such a focus on impacting others for the better, and because they become so well-connected at L&C, they get to do so right away in addition to after graduation. From an athletic communications standpoint, we're very fortunate."
