2001 NWC Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week

NWC Baseball Hitter of the Week: Eric Bell (George Fox, So., DH/1B, Spokane, Wash.) went 8/15 in five games, with five doubles, seven rbi's and three runs.
Honorable Mention: Josh Taylor (Whitworth, OF) went 4/10 with three home runs, six rbi's and five runs scored; Kevin Schjei (Linfield, DH) went 5/10 with a home run, three runs scored and a pair of rbi's; Paul Duman (Willamette, 1B) batted 6/11 with four rbi's; Matt Lengwenus (Pacific, OF) hit 5/13 with an rbi.
NWC Pitcher of the Week: Nik Lubisich (Willamette, Sr., LHP, West Linn, Ore.) went 1-0 in two games, allowing 0 runs in 10 innings, allowing six hits, while striking out nine and walking one.
Honorable Mention: Luke Faxon (PLU) shutout Whitworth on only 2 hits, while striking out five and walking two; Damon Lorenz (George Fox, LHP) shut out Whitman 8-0, allowing four hits and striking out four; Eric Anderson (Linfield) struck out 12 in a 4-1 win over Pacific, allowing five hits; Dustin Bare (Pacific) went the distance in a 4-2 win over Linfield, allowing five hits.
April 29
NWC Baseball Hitter of the Week: Augie Norgard (Linfield, Sr., OF, Astoria, Ore.) led the Wildcats to four wins in five games by hitting .400 (8/20) with three doubles, a grand slam and eight rbi's.
Honorable Mention: Kyle Langliers (George Fox, 1B) went 3/4 in the Bruins' only game, with a home run, two runs scored and five rbi's; Lindsay Fansler (Willamette, RF) went 4/9 with four runs scored and three rbi's in three games; Shaun Parthemer (PLU) went 5/8 with a home run, three doubles, three runs scored and two rbi's in two games; Tim Friedman (UPS, 3B) went 7/12 with a home runs and five rbi's in three losses.
NWC Pitcher of the Week: Jason Andrew (Pacific Lutheran , Sr., Tacoma, Wash.) earned a complete-game 3-1 win over Central Washington on Sunday by allowing five hits and striking out 15 batters. He did not allow a hit until the 7th.
Honorable Mention: Rob Schlegel (Linfield) improved to 8-0 this season with a complete game 6-2 win over UPS; Brian Farman (PLU) threw a complete game in a 10-1 win over L&C, allowing five hits and striking out 11 batters.
April 22
NWC Baseball Hitter of the Week: Kyle Hoover (Puget Sound, Jr., OF, Renton, Wash.) went 9/15 with eight runs batted in, three runs scored and two home runs in three games.
Honorable Mention: Jake Krummel (Whitworth, 2B) went 7/10 in three games, with a home run, three doubles, seven runs batted in and four runs scored; Aaron Bliss (George Fox, IF) went 10/17 with two home runs, seven rbi's, and three runs scored in four games; Matt Lengwenus (Pacific, OF) went 8/16 with a double, home run, five runs scored and six rbi's; Bill Allen (L&C, 1B) went 6/11 with a double, triple, two home runs, three rbi's and four runs scored; Michael Colon (PLU, OF) went 6/11 with four rbi's and three runs scored; Evan Swanson (Linfield) hit .400 (4/10) with a double, three rbi's and a run.
NWC Pitcher of the Week: Logan Evjen (George Fox, Jr., RHP, Aurora, Ore.) won two games in relief last week, allowing no runs and five hits in 8.1 innings. He struck out five and walked one.
Honorable Mention: Rob Schlegel (Linfield) improved to 7-0 this year with a 4-2 win vs. George Fox, striking out nine and allowing eight hits; Kelly DeVoy (Pacific) earned a complete-game win over L&C, allowing eight hits and striking out seven batters (and pitching two scoreless innings in relief in a second game); Matt Pellegrino (L&C, RHP) went 7.2 innings to earn a 6-4 win over PLU by allowing two earned runs and two hits while striking out 10 batters.
April 15
NWC Baseball Hitter of the Week: Matt Lengwenus (Pacific, So., OF, Newport, Ore.) hit .667 in five games (12/18), recording 12 rbi's, four home runs, nine runs scored and five stolen bases, leading the Boxers to three wins.
Honorable Mention: Eric Bell (George Fox, DH) went 9/13 with six rbi's and two home runs to lead the Bruins to a sweep of PLU; Lindsay Fansler (Willamette, OF) hit .458 (11/24) with a home run and six rbi as the Bearcats went 4-1; Josh Taylor (Whitworth, OF) led Whitworth to a series win at Linfield by hitting 6/13 with three rbi's and two runs scored; Greg Roberts (Linfield, C) went 4/7 in three games with an rbi.
NWC Pitcher of the Week: Paul Andrewjeski (George Fox, Sr., LHP, Vancouver, Wash.) shut out PLU with a nine-inning complete game effort, striking out 11 and walking only one.
Honorable Mention: Rob Schlegel (Linfield) threw a 7-inning shutout of Whitworth, allowing five hits and striking out five; Nik Lubisich (Willamette, LHP) went 2-0, with a pair of complete game wins, allowing three runs, striking out 17 and walking two; Derek Akimoto (Pacific) earned a complete-game win over UPS, allowing three runs and six hits.
April 8
NWC Baseball Hitter of the Week: Kyle Carothers (Whitman, Jr., OF/1B, Oak Harbor, Wash.) went 6/10 in three games, collecting a triple and double and finishing with 8 rbi's and four runs scored.
Honorable Mention: Rob White (PLU, OF) went 7/15 in four games last week with a home run; Nik Lubisich (Willamette, DH) batted 6/15 in four games with five runs scored and three runs batted in; Josh Taylor (Whitworth, OF) hit .500 (5/10) with a home run, triple, four rbi's and three runs scored; Evan Swanson (Linfield, 3B) went 5/12 with five runs scored, a double and an rbi; Adam Munson-Young (Pacific, IF) went 2/3 in the Boxers' only game, with a home run.
NWC Pitcher of the Week: Matt Squires (Whitworth, Sr., LHP, Lewiston, Idaho) threw the first no-hitter in the aluminum bat era at Whitworth in the 3-1 win over George Fox. He struck out seven and walked three.
Honorable Mention: Rob Schlegel (Linfield, RHP) shut out PLU 1-0, allowing three hits and striking out three; Nik Lubisich (Willamette, LHP) went 2-0, allowing 12 hits and two runs while striking out 12 batters; Brian Farman (PLU) nearly defeated Washington, going 8+ innings and allowing four runs, and defeated Linfield 5-4 in a complete game on Sunday; Matt Brewer (Whitman) went the distance in a 12-3 win over L&C, striking out 11 and allowing six hits.
April 1

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Dustin Bare (Pacific, Sr., Kennewick, Wash.) threw a complete-game two-hitter in a 5-1 win at PLU, striking out seven batters.
Honorable Mention: Matt Squires (Whitworth, LHP) struck out a season-high 14 batters while allowing 2 runs (1 earned) and two hits in a 6-2 win at L&C; Matt Sorenson (UPS) struck out five batters and allowed six hits in a 5-1 complete game victory over George Fox; Paul Andrewjeski (George Fox, LHP) allowed four hits and two runs, while striking out 12 in an 8-2 complete game win at UPS; Nik Lubisich (Willamette, LHP) defeated Linfield 6-2 while allowing six hits and striking out five; Bryan McCoy (Linfield) went seven innings to earn the win in a 16-1 rout of Willamette, striking out six batters.

Honorable Mention: Danny Aguilar (Willamette) went 10/22 with four doubles, five rbi's and five runs scored in six games; Eric Bell (George Fox, DH) went 5/11 in three losses with 4 rbi's , three doubles, and a run scored; Luke Voorhies (Pacific, C) went 3/5 with a home run and two rbi's in three losses.
NWC Pitcher of the Week: Matt Neill (Whitworth, Sr., RHP, Butte, Mont.) shutout Pacific on Sunday with a complete-game, four-hitter, striking out 10 batters and walking one.
Honorable Mention: Nik Lubisich (Willamette) earned a win and a save in two appearances, allowing three runs (two earned), striking out 14 and walking three in nine total innings; Ryan Toivola (Whitman) earned a complete-game win at UPS, allowing two runs and improving to 4-1 this season.
March 18
NWC Baseball Hitter of the Week: Nik Lubisich (Willamette, Sr., West Linn, Ore.) hit .556 (10/16) in six games (all wins) in California, driving in seven runs, scoring six with two doubles, a triple and a home run.
Honorable Mention: Tim Friedman (UPS, 3B) hit .522 (12/23) in eight games, recording 13 rbi's and two doubles; Marques Molett (Whitworth, OF) went 6/10 in three games with two rbi's, 3 runs scored and a game-winning homer.
NWC Pitcher of the Week: Justin Denk (UPS, So., Tacoma, Wash.) defeated Northpark 4-2 with a complete-game effort, allowing only one earned run.
March 12
NWC Baseball Hitter of the Week: Chuck Banta (Linfield, Jr., OF, West Linn, Ore.) went 9/18 with six runs batted in, five runs scored, two triples and a double in four games, three of which were Wildcat wins.
Honorable Mention: Pete Doumit (UPS, OF) went 6/12, driving in five runs and adding two doubles and a triple in a weekend sweep of L&C; Matt Lengwenus (Pacific, OF) went 8/18 with two home runs, two doubles and five stolen bases; Kyle Langliers (George Fox, 1B) went 6/12 with three doubles, 5 rbi's and two runs scored; Nolan Soete (PLU, 1B) went 5/12, driving in three runs and scoring four with a pair of homers; Matt Squires (Whitworth, OF) was 6/18 with two home runs, four rbi's and six runs scored; Ryan Nelson (Whitman, ?) was 5/11 with two rbi's and a run scored.

Honorable Mention: Matt Sorenson (UPS) threw a seven-inning, five hit shutout, while striking out five and walking none vs. L&C; Brian Farman (PLU) allowed two runs (0 earned) and eight hits, while striking out eight in a complete game victory at Willamette; Ryan Toivola (Whitman) earned a complete-game victory over Linfield, allowing three runs and nine hits; Brian McCoy (Linfield) allowed three runs and six hits in eight innings, earning the third-game win at Whitman; Damon Lorenz (George Fox) went 7.2 innings, defeating Pacific while allowing six hits and two runs.
