2009 Northwest Conference Softball Sutdent-Athletes of the Week

April 27 

(pitcher) - Brittany Miller (Linfield, Sr. Port Orchard, Wash./South Kitsap) struck out 31 of the 62 batters she faced in four appearances last week, holding opponents to a .097 batting average. Miller went 2-1 with a 1.42 ERA. She surpassed 600 strikeouts for her career.

Honorable Mention - Miranda McNealy (Pacific, Jr. Aloha, Ore.), Nikki Franchi (Willamette, Sr. Los Gatos, Calif.), Auriel Sperberg (Puget Sound, So. Spanaway, Wash.), Chelsea Bradely (George Fox, Jr. Salem, Ore.).

(player) - Staci Doucette (Linfield, Fr./SS Vancouver, Wash./Evergreen) led Linfield to four wins in five games last week, including three victories over No. 10 Willamette. She hit .615 with 15 total bases, including two homeruns.. Doucette's slugging percentage was 1.154 and she had a .722 on-base pct. and a 1.000 fielding pct. in 18 opportunities.

April 20

(pitcher) - Brittany Miller (Linfield, Sr. Port Orchard, Wash./North Kitsap) pitched two complete game victories, one by shutout. Miller piled up 30 strikeouts, including a Linfield single-game record 18 Ks to beat Pacific. She posted a 0.50 ERA, giving up only four hits over 14 innings. The opponent batting average was .091.

Honorable Mention - Nikki Franchi (Willamette, Sr. Los Gatos, Calif.), Rachel Wheeler (Pacific Lutheran, Jr. Puyallup, Wash.), Auriel Sperberg (Puget Sound, So. Spanaway, Wash.), Miranda McNealy (Pacific, Jr. Aloha, Ore.).

(player) - Stacey Hagensen (Pacific Lutheran, Fr./1B Bellevue, Wash./Newport) batted .643 this weekend, helping the Lutes pick up two wins each against George Fox and Lewis & Clark. She accumulated four homeruns and two doubles, all of which contribute to her 14 RBI performance. Hagensen added a stolen base to the mix, with no errors in the field.

April 13

(pitcher) - Brittany Miller (Linfield, Sr./RHP Port Orchard, Wash./North Kitsap) pitched two complete game shutouts, including a no-hitter versus PLU. She posted a 0.00 ERA over 14 innings, striking out 14 batters while walking just two. The opponent's batting average was .106.

Honorable Mention - Miranda McNealy (Pacific, Jr. Aloha, Ore.), Nikki Franchi (Willamette, Sr. Los Gatos, Calif.).

(player) - Chelsey Chamberlain (Pacific, Fr. Grants Pass, Ore./Grants Pass) hit her ninth homerun, one of nine hits in five games over the weekend. She also had two doubles and a triple, while accumulating 13 RBI. Chamberlain is now hitting .452 on the season, with a slugging percentage of .835.

April 6

Softball (pitcher) - Nikki Franchi (Willamette, Sr. Los Gatos, Calif./Saratoga, Calif.) recorded two shutouts during the week. She threw a 6-inning shutout against Lewis & Clark on April 1 and tossed a 5-inning shutout against George Fox on April 5. She went 3-0 overall with a 0.39 ERA. Franchi struck out 28 batters in 18.0 innings pitched, while allowing only four hits for the entire weekend. Franchi held opponents to a .069 batting average. For the season, she has an 11-1 record with a 1.09 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 77 innings.

Honorable Mention - Samantha Van Noy (Linfield, Sr. Sherwood, Ore.), Stacey Hagensen (Pacific Lutheran, Fr. Bellevue, Wash.), Jessica Mangis (Whitworth, So. Spangle, Wash.).

Softball (player) - Jordan Liebe (Pacific Lutheran, Fr./C Camas, Wash./Camas) helped PLU to a 3-1 weekend against Pacific. She accumulated a .455 batting average, with 12 RBI. Four of her five hits were homeruns, including two grand slams. Liebe had no errors in the field and also walked three times.

Honorable Mention -Natalie Taylor (Linfield, So. Tualatin, Ore.), Aryn Grause (Puget Sound, Fr. Corvallis, Ore.), Chelsey Chamberlain (Pacific, Fr. Grants Pass, Ore.), Caty Lieske (Whitworth, So. Port Orchard, Wash.), LaShawna Holcomb (Willamette, Sr. Renton, Wash.).

March 30

Softball (pitcher) - Nikki Franchi (Willamette, Sr. Los Gatos, Calif./Saratoga) went 4-0 during the week, recorded a 0.81 ERA and limited opponents to a .130 batting average. She struck out 41 batters in 26.0 innings. She earned complete-game, 7-inning shutouts over Oregon Tech and Puget Sound. In her four starting appearances, Frnachi threw four complete games and allowed four hits or less in each contest (2-3-3-4). She did not allow a hit or a run in her two innings of relief. For the season, Franchi has an 8-1 record with a 1.31 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 59 innings.

Softball (player) - Kristen Croxford (Pacific, Sr./OF Klamath Falls, Ore./Klamath Union) batted .700 in four games this weekend. Her seven hits included three doubles and 5 RBI. Croxford helped Pacific go 2-0 against Lewis & Clark.

Honorable Mention - Lacey Kerr (Whitworth, Jr. Spokane, Wash.), Alex Hartmann (Linfield, So. Medina, Wash.), Suzanne Von Trapp (Willamette, Fr. Salem, Ore.), Shelby Briske (George Fox, So. Spanaway, Wash.).

March 23

Softball (Player) - Emilee Lepp (Linfield, Fr., 1B, Colville, Wash. - Colville) led the Wildcats to doubleheader sweeps of Lewis & Clark and Corban by hitting .778 (7 for 9) with two doubles, a triple and a grand slam. She drove in 10 runs and scored four times. She walked three times and added a stolen base.

Honorable Mention - Sierra Lessel (Willamette, Fr., OF, Eugene, Ore. - Churchill); Stephanie Vanoudenhaegen (Pacific, So., OF, Cornelius, Ore. - Glencoe); Megan Janes (UPS, Fr., C, Littleton, Colo. - Arapahoe), Jessica Mullins (L&C, Jr., C, Randle, Wash. - White Pass).

Softball (Pitcher) - Nikki Franchi (Willamette, Sr., RHP, Los Gatos, Calif. - Saratoga) allowed two runs (zero earned) in a pair of six-inning victories against George Fox and Dominican (Calif.). She gave up only three hits and four walks, while striking out 24 batters.

Honorable Mention - Lauren Tuey (Pacific, Fr., Redlands, Calif. - Redlands); Brittany Miller (Linfield, Sr., RHP, Port Orchard, Wash. - North Kitsap); Auriel Sperberg (UPS, So., RHP, Spanaway, Wash. - Graham-Kapowsin).

March 16

(pitcher) - Chelsey Chamberlain (Pacific, Fr. Grants Pass, Ore./Grants Pass) hurled a two-hitter to complete a doubleheader sweep of Puget Sound.  It is her second win of the season and her second shutout with four hits or less. Chamberlain added three strikeouts to the 4-0 victory.

Honorable Mention - Kendra Strahm (Linfield, Sr. Medford, Ore.

(player) - Caitlin Brown (Pacific Lutheran, So./SS Salem, Ore./Sprague) hit .647 this weekend in Pacific's series against Whitworth. She racked up three doubles and one triple, with four RBI. Brown added a stolen base to the mix and had at least two hits in each of the four games.

Honorable Mention - Ashley Carey (Whitworth, Jr. Enumclaw, Wash.), Kristen Croxford (Pacific, Sr. Klamath Falls, Ore.), Staci Doucette (Linfield, Fr. Vancouver, Wash.), Chelsea Bradely (George Fox, Jr. Salem, Ore.).

March 9

Softball (pitcher) - Stacey Hagensen (Pacific Lutheran, Fr. Bellevue, Wash./Newport) pitched two shutout wins for PLU, allowing no runs on only eight hits in twelve innings.  In the five inning win against Lewis & Clark, Hagensen racked up six strike outs and no walks.

Honorable Mention - Brittany Miller (Linfield, Sr. Port Orchard, Wash.), Alex Watilo (Willamette, Fr. Newcastle, Calif.), Chelsea Bradely (George Fox, Jr. Salem, Ore.).

Softball (player) - Emilee Lepp (Linfield, Fr./1B Colville, Wash./Colville) hit .692 to lead the Wildcats to a 4-0 week. She had 16 total bases in 13 plate appearances, added two stolen bases and was perfect in the field in 22 opportunities. Lepp drove in five runs and scored eight times. She finished the weekend with a 1.23 slugging percentage, .643 on-base percentage, and 1.000 fielding percentage.

March 2

(pitcher) - Chelsey Chamberlain (Pacific, Fr. Grants Pass, Ore./Grants Pass) earned a key shutout for the Boxers in her first collegiate start.  She had pitched only three innings leading up to this game while also playing at first base and as the designated player.  Chamberlain pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only two hits while striking out two. She also had a two-run homer in the first inning to help her own cause.

(player) - Staci Doucette (Linfield, Fr./SS  Vancouver, Wash./Evergreen), playing her first collegiate games, hit .500 for the week as Linfield beat Pacific Lutheran twice on the road. Doucette's four hits included a double and a three run homerun. She also had a stolen base and scored a run in the two wins.

Feb. 23

(pitcher) - Auriel Sperberg (Puget Sound, So. Spanaway, Wash./Graham-Kapowsin) went 1-1 this weekend in non-conference play. Sperberg's win was a complete game shutout, where she allowed only six hits and struck out two in a 6-0 win over Corban.

Honorable Mention - Alex Watilo (Willamette, Fr. Newcastle, Calif.), Chelsea Bradely (George Fox, Jr. Salem, Ore.)

(player) - Kristen Croxford (Pacific, Sr./OF Klamath Falls, Ore./Klamath Union) was Pacific's top offensive leader as the Boxers went 3-1 while playing four games in a span of three days.  In Pacific's opener against Corban, Croxford finished a single short of hitting for the cycle. For the weekend, Croxford accumulated 10 hits, including four doubles, a triple and a home run, five RBI, and a stolen base.
