2002 NWC Softball Student-Athletes of the Week

April 28

NWC Hitter of the Week: Heather Lovejoy (UPS, Sr., OF, Tacoma, Wash.) went 8/12 with a home run, two doubles, seven runs batted in and five runs scored to lead the Loggers to three wins in four games.
Honorable Mention: Jewel Koury (PLU) went 5/10 with a game-winning home run, two doubles, four runs batted in and three runs scored; Kim Hee (Pacific, OF) went 10/25 with a double, triple, five runs batted in and three runs scored in seven games; Molleigh Keenan (Linfield, C/1B) hit .500 (10/20) with a double and three rbi's in six games.

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Melissa Korb (PLU, Sr., Poulsbo, Wash.) went 2-0, allowing two runs and seven hits while striking out 19 batters in 15 innings.
Honorable Mention: Mandy Batey (Pacific) went 3-1 in four games, allowing seven runs while striking out 21 batters in 25 innings; Kelsey Weidkamp (UPS) went 3-1, allowing 17 runs (8 earned) while striking out three batters in 20.1 innings.

April 21

NWC Hitter of the Week: Anna Beyers (Willamette, Fr., OF, Moscow, Idaho) batted .727 (8/11) with four runs scored, three runs batted in, two doubles, a triple and six stolen bases as the Bearcats went 4-1.
Honorable Mention: Kelsey Palaniuk (PLU, OF) was 8/16 with five rbi's, seven runs scored, a home run and three doubles in five games; Tracy Jonas (L&C) went 6/8 with three rbi's and four runs scored in three games; Jen Dieringer (Linfield, OF) was 6/14 with two runs scored and an rbi.

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Melissa Korb (PLU, Sr., Poulsbo, Wash.) went 2-0, allowing one hit, no runs and seven walks in 13 innings, while striking out 28 batters.
Honorable Mention: Hayley Boston (Willamette) went 2-1 with a save in four games, allowing 11 hits, three runs (1 earned) and two walks in 19 innings, while striking out 10; Alicia Herman (Linfield) went 1-1, allowing five runs, 18 hits and two walks in 13 innings, while striking out five.

April 14

NWC Hitter of the Week: Marie Potter (UPS, Sr., 1B/C, Woodinville, Wash.) went 7/9 in a four game sweep at Whitworth, with a home run, two doubles, nine runs batted in and three runs scored. She walked seven times.
Honorable Mention: Jenny Ferries (PLU, SS) went 3/5 with two doubles, a home run and four rbi's in two wins; Sherri Mabie (Willamette, 2B) was 6/10 with an rbi and four runs scored in three wins; Nicole Vickerman (Linfield, OF) was 5/12 with an rbi and three runs scored in three wins.

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Liz Coburn (Linfield, So., Albany, Ore.) shut out George Fox 4-0 over seven innings, striking out 11 batters, walking none and allowing five hits.
Honorable Mention: Melissa Korb (PLU) threw a five-inning no-hitter, walking two and striking out 13 batters; Kelsey Weidkamp (UPS) went 3-0, allowing four runs (one earned) and 10 hits over 15 innings with six strike outs and 10 walks; Hayley Boston (Willamette) went 3-0, allowing six runs (four earned) and 16 hits over 18 innings with eight strike outs and 10 walks.

April 7

NWC Hitter of the Week: Heather Lovejoy (UPS, Sr., 3B, Tacoma, Wash.) went 11/19 with five doubles, five runs batted in and four runs scored in six games.
Honorable Mention: Jaimi Jones (Pacific, 3B) hit .471 (8/17) with four doubles, five rbi's and six runs scored in five games; Tracy Jonas (L&C) was 9/20 with nine runs scored, four doubles and four rbi's in six games; Sara Shideler (PLU, 1B) went 6/11 with a home run, three rbi's and three runs scored in four games; Nicole Vickerman (Linfield, OF) went 7/10 with two runs scored in three games.

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Melissa Korb (PLU, Sr., Poulsbo, Wash.) went 2-0 in three games, allowing two hits and no runs, while striking out 22 batters, in 13 innings.
Honorable Mention: Liz Coburn (Linfield) went 2-0 vs. UPS, allowing 1 earned run, 12 hits in 13 innings, while striking out seven.

March 30

NWC Hitter of the Week: Shannon Fritzke (PLU, Sr., C, Bothell, Wash.) went 11/18 with 12 runs batted in, two doubles and a home run as the Lutes went 6-0.
Honorable Mention: Marie Potter (UPS, C) went 4/8 with four rbi's, one run scored and a home run in a sweep of George Fox; Megan Schlam hit .538 (7/13) as the Wildcats went 4-2; Tracy Jonas (L&C, OF) hit .440 (11/25) with six runs scored, three rbi's and a triple as the Pioneers went 1-8.

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Melissa Korb (PLU, Sr., Poulsbo, Wash.) went 2-0 with a save, allowing no hits over 13 2/3 innings while striking out 23 batters. She had a five-inning perfect game vs. Oxy and a no-hitter vs. Pacific.
Honorable Mention: Kelsey Weidkamp (UPS) went 2-0, allowing six hits and no runs in 14 innings, striking out 11 batters; Liz Coburn (Linfield) shut out Whitworth on one hit, while striking out five.

March 24

NWC Hitter of the Week: Shannon Fritzke (PLU, Sr., C, Bothell, Wash.) led the Lutes to a 4-0 week by going 8/11 at the plate with four home runs, three doubles and 12 runs batted in.
Honorable Mention: Cori Wulf (George Fox, 1B) went 6/12 with four rbi's and one run scored as the Bruins went 3-0 at the Sun West Tournament; Nicole Vickerman (Linfield, OF) went 8/16 with four runs scored and two rbi's as the Wildcats went 3-4 at the Sun West Tournament.

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Laura Steenson (George Fox, Jr., Milwaukie, Ore.) went 3-0 last week, with three complete games, allowing 11 hits, three runs (none earned), striking out 19 and walking one in 20 innings.
Honorable Mention: Melissa Korb (PLU) went 2-0, allowing no earned runs and four hits, while striking out 23 in 11 innings.

March 17

NWC Hitter of the Week: Jewel Koury (PLU, So., Tumwater, Wash.) went 3/5 with a double, three rbi's and three runs scored as the Lutes swept the Bearcats.

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Melissa Korb (PLU, Sr., Poulsbo, Wash.) beat Willamette 7-0, allowing one hit while striking out 13 and walking none. In the second game she threw 2.2 innings of relief to pick up the win.

March 10

NWC Hitter of the Week: Cori Wulf (George Fox, Jr., 1B, Salem, Ore.) led the Bruins to a conference sweep of Pacific by going 4/7 with a home run, two doubles, six runs batted in and two runs scored.
Honorable Mention: Sara Shideler (PLU, 1B) went 6/8 with a double and two rbi's as the Lutes went 3-0; Erin Sakai (Pacific, OF) went 2/5 with an rbi in two losses.

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Melissa Korb (PLU, Sr., Poulsbo, Wash.) went 2-0, including a perfect game, allowing no runs and one hit in 13 innings, while striking out 26 and walking none.
Honorable Mention: Laura Steenson (George Fox) won both games of a double header vs. Pacific, allowing six hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out 14 batters; Hayley Boston (Willamette) allowed only one earned run (three total) while going 10 innings in a 4-3 win over Linfield.
