2000 NWC Softball Student-Athletes of the Week

May 1-7

Pitcher of the Week: Karissa Way (Linfield, Sr., The Dalles, OR) defeated NWC champ PLU 5-3, while striking out 12 and allowing only one earned run. For the weekend, she was 1-1, allowing six runs, four earned runs, striking out 15.
Honorable Mention: Kylie Holland (Pacific) went 1-0 in two games. In 10 innings she allowed nine hits and four runs (two earned), including a three-hit shutout on Sunday.

Hitter of the Week: Jennifer Barnes (Pacific, Fr., Boardman, OR) went 10/15 in four games, with four doubles, a triple, a home run and eight rbi's.
Honorable Mention: Nikki Craig (Linfield) went 2/4 with two runs scored in three games at PLU.

April 24-30

Pitcher of the Week: Karissa Way (Linfield, Sr., The Dalles, OR) went 2-0, allowing only one run in 12 innings while striking out 10 batters.
Honorable Mention: Melissa Korb (PLU) went 2-0, allowing only one run in 9.2 innings.

Co-Hitters of the Week: Jamie Jones (Linfield, Jr., OF, Roseburg, OR) and Irene Bryant (PLU, So., IF, Puyallup, WA). Jones went 8/12 in four games, with two doubles, a triple and two rbi's. Bryant went 6/10 in four games, scoring six times and driving in two.

April 17-22

Pitcher of the Week: Melissa Korb (PLU, So., P, Seattle, Wash.) went 3-0, allowing 1 run in 14 innings, striking out 23 batters.
Honorable Mention: Haley Boston (Willamette) earned a win and a save, allowing four hits and no runs in 8 innings pitched; Lauren Dunnigan (L&C) defeated UPS, allowing two earned runs and two hits in 5.2 innings.

Hitter of the Week: Shannon Fritzke (PLU, So., C, Bothell, Wash.) went 11/14 with three home runs and 10 rbi's in 5-0 week, raising her average to .539.
Honorable Mention: Rhonda DeVore (L&C) went 7/15 with a pair of doubles, three rbi's and two runs scored; Sherri Mabie (Willamette) went 4/11 with three runs scored and an rbi, while stealing six bases in six attempts.

April 10-16

Pitcher of the Week: Annie Stockton (L&C, Sr., Woodinville, WA) shut out #1 PLU 1-0 on seven hits during a weekend in which she went 1-1 vs. the Lutes.
Honorable Mention: Beth Davis (George Fox) went 2-0 at Whitworth, allowing 12 hits, and six runs in 17.1 innings; Hayley Boston (Willamette) allowed only one run in three games, going 1-1 vs. Linfield; Cherstin Johnson (PLU) defeated L&C 11-1, allowing three hits.

Hitter of the Week: Erin Peterson (UPS, Sr., Walla Walla, WA) had a career week, going 11/18 in five games with four home runs (three grand slams) 16 rbi and 7 runs scored.
Honorable Mention: Anita Orlowski (George Fox) went 6/13 with two home runs, 7 rbis and 3 runs scored in four games at Whitworth; Shannon Fritzke (PLU) went 6/9 with a home run and 6 rbi's in three games at L&C; Rhonda DeVore (L&C) went 3/7 with 3 runs scored and an rbi vs. PLU; Jessica Klingeman (Whitworth) went 5/12 with 3 rbi's and 4 runs scored vs. GF.

April 3-9

Pitcher of the Week: Kassia Vote (UPS) went 3-1, including all 20 innings in the series at Linfield. She allowed 3 runs in 27 innings.
Honorable Mention:Jessica Baca (PLU) threw a complete-game one-hitter, striking out nine, in first career start vs. George Fox.

Hitter of the Week: Kim Gainey (Pacific, Fr.) went 4/7 with three home runs and seven rbi's in three games vs. L&C.
Honorable Mention: Shannon Fritzke (PLU) went 5/9 with seven rbi's and a home run in three games vs. George Fox; Cassie Runksmeier (L&C) went 5/10 with a home run, two runs scored and two rbi's; Megan Schlam (Linfield) went 5/12 with two rbi's.

March 27-April 2

Pitcher of the Week: Cherstin Johnson (PLU, So., Issaquah, WA) went 2-0 in three games at Willamette. She pitched 12.1 innings, allowing two runs and six hits, striking out 10. She pitched a complete-game 2-hitter in 7-1 win.

Co-Hitters of the Week: Jill Voorhis (UPS, So., OF, Newport, OR) went 7/12 to lead the Loggers to a 4-0 weekend vs. Whitworth. She scored six runs and had two rbi's. Liz Copeland (Pacific, Fr., Keizer, OR) went 8/11 and added a pair of stolen bases in three games vs. George Fox.

March 20-26

Pitcher of the Week: Melissa Korb (PLU, So., Poulsbo, WA) went 4-0 at SunWest Tournament, allowing only 3 earned runs in 30.2 innings (0.68 era) with 35 strikeouts. All four teams she defeated are ranked in the NFCA top-20 poll, including #2 Wisc.-Eau Claire, and #4 (and host) Chapman.
Honorable Mention: Kacey Brice (Linfield) went 3-0 at SunWest, striking out 19; Kassia Vote (UPS) won all three games of the George Fox series, including a 5-inning perfect game.

Hitter of the Week: Shannon Fritzke (PLU, So., C, Bothell, WA) led PLU to nine wins in 10 games at SunWest Tournament by hitting .615 (16/26) with 10 rbi's and seven doubles.
Honorable Mention: Jenny Dominguez (Linfield) went 10/25 in California with nine rbi's, two doubles and a triple.

March 13-19

Player of the Week: Lexi Ashcraft (UPS, Sr., OF, Portland, OR) hit .538 (14/26) in nine games, with 7 runs scored and 4 rbi's.
Honorable Mention: Rochelle Hawkins (L&C, OF) was 4/9 in four games.

March 5-12

Pitcher of the Week: Kira Bliss (Whitworth, Fr., Cheney, WA) pitched back to back complete game wins in Pirates' sweep of L&C on Sunday. She pitched 14 innings, allowing 0 earned runs, 8 hits, walking none and striking out five.
Honorable Mention: Karissa Way (Linfield) went 2-0 last week while striking out 7, walking none and allowing no earned runs in nine innings; Cherstin Johnson (PLU) piched 14 innings, allowed 7 hits, 1 run, struck out seven in two wins.

Hitter of the Week: Stacy Nielsen (Linfield, Jr., 2B, Portland, OR) hit .500 (5/10) in three wins, with three runs scored and three rbi's.
Honorable Mention: Mandy Flores (PLU) went 6/13 in four wins, with two steals, two rbi's and two doubles.
