2001-02 NWC Women's Basketball Student-Athletes of the Week
Feb. 18
Player of the Week: Sarah Shogren (Whitworth, Fr, F, Newman Lake, Wash.) led the Pirates to a pair of road wins and a second place finish by scoring 38 points (shooting 61%) and adding 12 rebounds and seven assists.
Honorable Mention: Jamie Keatts (PLU, G) scored 30 points as the Lutes clinched the NWC title; Julie Vanni (UPS, P) scored 43 points and grabbed 33 rebounds as the Loggers went 2-1; Nnenna Lewis (L&C, G) scored 33 points and added 26 rebounds, 12 steals and six assists in two losses; Kristi Bryant (Pacific, G) had 23 points and nine rebounds in two games; Katie Gardner (Linfield, G) totaled 23 points, six steals and five rebounds in two games.
Feb. 10
Player of the Week: Erica Ewart (Whitworth, Sr., G, Connell, Wash.) led Whitworth into a tie for second place in the NWC by scoring 33 points (16.5 ppg) and adding six assists, four steals and four rebounds.
Honorable Mention: Julie Vanni (UPS, P) averaged 16.3 ppg and 8.3 rpg and added six steals as the Loggers went 2-1; Jamie Keatts (PLU, F) totaled 39 points and 17 rebounds in three Lute wins; Nancy Weyler (Willamette, C) had 33 points and 13 rebounds as the Bearcats went 1-1, including an upset of George Fox; Lindsay Sweetland (L&C, G) finished with 35 points and 13 rebounds in two losses; Kristi Bryant (Pacific, G/F) totaled 20 points and 10 rebounds in two games; Darin Reynaud (Whitman, F) scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in two losses; Leah Moore (Linfield, G) scored 22 points in two games.

Player of the Week: Darby Cave (George Fox, So., P, Portland, Ore.) led the Bruins to a pair of wins by scoring 36 points (shooting 59% from the floor) and grabbing 15 rebounds.
Honorable Mention: Julie Vanni (UPS, P) scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the Loggers' win; Denise Kirstein (Whitman, W) totaled 27 points, 16 rebounds and six steals in two wins; Chrissy Oneal (Whitworth, P) had 23 points and 20 rebounds in two wins; Monica Schwing (Linfield, F) scored 34 points and added seven rebounds in two games; Becky Franza (PLU, G) scored 28 points in two games; Lindsay Sweetland (L&C, G) scored 33 points and grabbed 15 boards in three losses; Katannya Kapeli (Pacific, G) totaled 36 points, 13 rebounds and six steals in three losses.
Jan. 27
Player of the Week: Heather Doud (George Fox, Sr., P, Corvallis, Ore.) led the Bruins to a pair of wins by scoring 39 points, while making 63% of her shots (15/24), and sinking 7/9 three pointers. She added six assists and five rebounds.
Honorable Mention: Courtney Leybold (Puget Sound, G) scored 47 points and added 17 assists and 12 steals in three Logger victories; Mary Lindburg (Pacific, F) scored 16 points with 12 rebounds and five assists in a Boxer win; Becky Franza (Pacific Lutheran, G) scored 33 points and added seven assists in two wins; Rosie Contri (Willamette, F) had 28 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists as the Bearcats went 1-1; Nnenna Lewis (Lewis & Clark, G) totaled 35 points, 14 rebounds and eight steals in two losses; Monica Schwing (Linfield, F) scored 24 points and added seven rebounds in two losses; Sunny Gulberg (Whitman, G) scored 31 points in three losses.
Jan. 20
Player of the Week: Erica Ewart (Whitworth, Sr., G, Connell, Wash.) led the Pirates to three wins this week, including an upset of 10th-ranked George Fox, by scoring 42 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and adding 11 assists.
Honorable Mention: Wenchi Liu (Willamette, G) scored 31 points and dished nine assists in two Bearcat victories; Jamie Keatts (PLU, F) scored 16 points and grabbed five boards in a win at L&C; Shae Wright (Linfield, C) had 32 points and six rebounds off of the bench to lead the Wildcats to two wins; Heather Doud (George Fox, P) totaled 36 points and 14 rebounds in two games; Sunny Gulberg (Whitman, PG) scored 55 points and added 10 rebounds and nine assists in three Missionary losses; Lindsay Sweetland (L&C, G) finished with 46 points and 21 rebounds in three Pioneer losses; Mary Lindburg (Pacific, F) scored 24 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in two games.

Player of the Week: Sunny Gulberg (Whitman, Sr., PG, Snohomish, Wash.) scored 39 points and added nine rebounds and five steals in two games, including an upset of Pacific Lutheran.
Honorable Mention: Nicole Prazeau (George Fox, W) finished with 40 points, 17 rebounds and six steals to lead the Bruins to three victories; Mary Lindburg (Pacific, F) had 21 points and 13 rebounds in two Boxer wins; Lindsay Sweetland (L&C, G) scored 37 points and grabbed 23 rebounds in two Pioneer losses; Becky Franza (PLU, PG) totaled 29 points in two games; Courtney Leybold (UPS, G) had 37 points and seven rebounds in three games; Chrissy Oneal (Whitworth, F) totaled 31 points and 17 rebounds in two Pirate losses; Monica Schwing (Linfield, F) scored 28 points and added eight rebounds in two games.
Jan. 6
Player of the Week: Lindsay May (UPS, Fr., F, Richland, Wash.) scored 24 points, including 10 of 10 from the free throw line, and grabbed six rebounds as the Loggers opened their NWC schedule with a win over Pacific.
Honorable Mention: Jessica Iserman (PLU, F/C) led the Lutes to a pair of key wins by scoring 24 points and adding 17 boards; Erica Ewart (Whitworth, G) kept the Pirates unbeaten in the NWC by scoring 30 points and adding 11 rebounds; Heather Doud (George Fox, P) totaled 29 points and 23 rebounds in two games; Rosie Contri (Willamette, G) finished with 27 points, eight rebounds, eight steals and six assists as the Bearcats went 1-1; Sunny Gulberg (Whitman, G) averaged 16.7 points and 4.3 assists in three games last week; Katannya Kapeli (Pacific, G) scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in two games; Deidra Wilson (L&C, F) totaled 20 points, 15 rebounds and eight steals in two games; Leah Moore (Linfield, G) had 22 points and five assists in two losses.
Dec. 30
Player of the Week: Julie Vanni (UPS, Sr., P, Richland, Wash.) scored 41 points, grabbed 24 rebounds and added five steals in a pair of games at the Southern Oregon Tournament.
Honorable Mention: Kara Marusa (Whitworth, G) scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed five boards in the Pirates' loss at Lewis-Clark State.
Dec. 22
Player of the Week: Heather Doud (George Fox, Sr., P, Corvallis, Ore.) scored 44 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Bruins to a pair of wins in Hawaii.
Honorable Mention: Erica Ewart (Whitworth, G) scored 38 points (.632 fg%) and added 10 boards in two wins; Allison McCurdy (UPS, G) totaled 34 points (8/13 3ptrs), eight rebounds and four assists in two wins; Lindsay Sweetland (L&C, G) scored a career-high 28 points and added 11 rebounds and five steals vs. UCSC; Rosie Contie (Willamette, G) finished with 24 points, 13 rebounds and three steals in a win over UCSC; Sunny Gulberg (Whitman, G) scored 18 points and added four steals and three rebounds in a win over Pacific Union; Monica Schwing (Linfield, F) had 19 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in a loss at LCSC.
Dec. 9
Player of the Week: Julie Vanni (UPS, Sr., F, Richland, Wash.) scored an NWC-season best 32 points and added 11 rebounds and four steals in the Loggers' win at Warner Pacific.
Honorable Mention: Darby Cave (George Fox, P) led the Bruins to a 3-0 week by scoring 36 points and grabbing 19 rebounds; Lindsay Sweetland (L&C, G) totaled 35 points, 20 rebounds and seven steals as the Pioneers went 1-1; Erica Ewart (Whitworth, G) finished with 31 points in two games as the Pirates went 0-2; Monica Schwing (Linfield, F) scored 50 points and added 19 rebounds, five steals and four assists in three games.
Dec. 2
Player of the Week: Brynn Henkel (Lewis & Clark, So., G/F, Missoula, Mont.) led the Pioneers to a pair of wins at the Bon Appetit Classic by scoring 52 points, grabbing 16 rebounds and adding 11 steals and 12 assists.
Honorable Mention: Jessica Iserman (PLU, F) was named MVP of the PLU Parkland Chevrolet Classic after scoring 36 points and grabbing 30 rebounds as the Lutes won twice; Darby Cave (George Fox,P ) led the Bruins to a pair of wins at the PLU Classic by totaling 37 points and 10 rebounds; Chrissy Oneal (Whitworth, P) led the Pirates to a pair of wins with 34 points and 14 rebounds; Rosie Contri (Willamette, G) finished with 41 points, 30 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals as the Bearcats went 2-1 last week; Allison McCurdy (UPS, G) scored 18 points and added five rebounds and four assists in the Loggers' win over Seattle; Kristine Callan (Pacific, G) finished with 14 points, six steals and five assists in the Boxers' win over Cascade; Kim Evanger (Whitman, C) totaled 44 points and 14 rebounds in three games.
Nov. 26
Player of the Week: Heather Doud (George Fox, Sr., P, Corvallis, Ore.) led the Bruins to the team title at the Concordia Tournament by scoring 35 points, grabbing 19 rebounds and adding six steals in two games.
Honorable Mention: Erica Ewart (Whitworth, G) scored 48 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and added 8 assists and 8 steals as the Pirates went 1-1; Sunny Gulberg (Whitman, G) made the All-Tournament team at Albertson by scoring 47 points and adding six rebounds, four assists and four steals; Janna Vavra (Pacific, F) scored 45 points and added 23 rebounds in three games; Rosie Contri (Willamette, G) finished with 26 points, 14 rebounds, six steals and five assists as the Bearcats went 1-1; Brynn Henkel (L&C, G) scored 32 points in two games.
