2011 NWC Men's Tennis Student-Athletes of the Week

April 12

Colin Zalewski

Whitworth, Senior

Federal Way, Wash.

Zalewski helped Whitworth finish out its best regular season in tennis in more than 20 years with victories in both of his singles matches and both of his doubles matches.

April 5

Connor Holton-Burke

Whitman, Junior

Boulder, Colo.

Holton-Burke won twice in straight sets to remain undefeated (7-0) at No. 1 singles in NWC matches. He and primary doubles partner Andrew La Cava added a win at No. 1 doubles, upping their NWC record to 7-0 in the top double slot. Holton-Burke also teamed with Quin Miller for a victory at No. 2 doubles as undefeated Whitman juggled its line-up. Holton-Burke began March with a No. 15 singles ranking the West Region; he and La Cava were No. 2 in the West Region doubles rankings.

Baumgartner was 2-3 in singles and 2-3 in doubles during the week, including matches against nationally-ranked Bowdoin (#15) and Trinity (#14).

Taylor Dickey

Pacific Lutheran, Sophomore

Richland, Wash.

Dickey had a great week in leading the Lutes to a pair of wins, including a 5-4 victory over Linfield that avenged an early season 7-2 loss. Dickey and doubles partner Scott Sheldon improved to 6-2 in conference matches.

March 22

Etienne Moshevich

Whitman, Senior

Richmond, B.C.

With Whitman playing its fourth, fifth, and sixth matches against national-caliber teams in as many days, Moshevich was Whitman’s most consistent winner down the stretch. He moved up to No. 2 singles against Cal Lutheran, beating a nationally-ranked opponent in three sets, and shared a 9-8victory at No. 2 doubles. In Whitman’s other two matches, Moshevich was 1-1 in singles (No. 3) and 1-1 in doubles (No. 2).

March 15

Etienne Moshevich

Whitman, Senior

Richmond, B.C.

Moshevich, in the midst of his most healthy season, won at No. 3 singles and shared in a No. 2 doubles victory as No. 19 Whitman beat No. 9 Trinity on Saturday (it was the highest-ranked team Whitman has beaten in the last 13 years). Moshevich also had wins in singles and doubles against Swarthmore on Friday. In Whitman’s loss to No. 7 Kenyon on Friday, Moshevich lost a three-set decision in singles and was part of an 8-4 loss in doubles.

Zuroske is 7-0 on the season in singles play and made the move up to the No. 1 spot on Saturday for the first time and pulled out a three set win.

Scott won both of his singles and doubles matches during the weekend, helping the Lutes earn a split with the College of Idaho and George Fox.

Holton-Burke won twice at No. 1 singles and twice at No. 1 doubles as three-time defending champ Whitman opened its NWC season with a pair of Sunday victories at Pacific and George Fox. Holton-Burke beat Scott Barnett of George Fox, an All-NWC Second Team selection last year, in one of his singles matches. Holton-Burke teamed with freshman Andrew La Cava for two Sunday wins at No. 1 doubles.
