Leo Castillo

Castillo took 24th place in the highly-competitive 8k men’s race at the Bill Dellinger Invitational, hosted by the University of Oregon on Oct. 16. Castillo’s time was 24:38.62. The meet included three Top 11 teams from NCAA Division I (Oregon, Portland, Wisconsin).

Kimber Mattox

Willamette, Sophomore

Mattox took second place behind unattached runner Christine Babcock in the 5k women’s race at the Mike Hodges Invitational on Oct. 15. Mattox earned a time of 17:56.88. Her time moved Mattox into seventh on Willamette’s all-time Top 10 list, improving her previous top time of 18:00.56.

Phillips finished sixth out of 62 runners at the PLU Invitational with a time of 27:13.09.

Leo Castillo

Castillo placed 20th out of 239 runners in the Men’s Cardinal 8k Race at the 36th Annual Charles Bowles Classic on Oct. 2. He completed the race in 24:24.31 and was the top NCAA Division III finisher. Castillo helped Willamette place 5th in the team standings (score of 155) behind four NCAA Division I and II teams.

Turner was the top NCAA DIII runner (the next closest was her own teammate in 15th) at the Willamette Charles Bowles Invite, placing 12th out of 257 runners with a time of 17:52.90. She led the Pirate women to the best NCAA DIII finish.

Trinidad, Calif./McKinleyville

Pinske was the top collegiate finisher at the Linfield Preview. His time of 26:36 was just five seconds behind the race winner, a club runner. Pinske, a senior competing in his first season of cross country, helped the Linfield men’s team claim second place.

Redmond, Ore./Bend

Seeley won the Linfield Preview by a nine-second margin over the second-place runner. She covered the six-kilometer course in 23:23, leading Linfield to a third-place team finish.

Berrien was the top NCAA DIII finisher at the UW Sundodger Open race, leading Whitworth to a team title over NAIA/CIS power UBC. He finished less than 13 seconds behind the winner from NCAA DII St. Martin’s.

Mattox won the women’s race (5k) and led the Bearcats to a team victory at the Willamette Grass Course on Friday, Sept. 17. She crossed the finish line in 19:03.41 to win by 29.52 seconds over Mimi Seeley of Linfield in second place.

Castillo took second place with a time of 25:06.67 over the 8k course at the Pier Park Invitational hosted by the University of Portland. Castillo helped Willamette finish second in the team results as WU scored 2-4-6-10-11.

Berrian came from behind to overtake teammate Kalen Darling over the final kilometer and lead Whitworth for a 1-2-3-4 finish at the Whitman Invitational.
