Whitworth Extends Lead in NWC McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports Trophy Race After Winter Season

At the conclusion of the winter season, the Whitworth University Pirates continue to lead the race for the Northwest Conference McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports Trophy, building on their strong fall performance with a conference-best 147 total points.

Whitworth added significant points during the winter season, sweeping the men’s and women’s swimming championships while also capturing the men’s basketball title. The Pirates also placed seventh in women’s basketball, further strengthening their lead in the overall standings as they pursue a third consecutive all-sports trophy.

The University of Puget Sound moved into second place with 133 points following a strong winter showing. The Loggers finished second in both men’s and women’s swimming and posted runner-up finishes in both women’s and men’s basketball. Combined with their successful fall season that included co-championships in women’s soccer and volleyball, Puget Sound remains firmly in contention heading into the spring.

Whitman College sits in third place with 104 points. The Blues recorded fourth-place finishes in both men’s and women’s swimming, tied for second in women’s basketball, and finished tied for seventh in men’s basketball. Their fall season was highlighted by a conference championship in men’s soccer, helping keep Whitman within striking distance of the top two programs.

Pacific Lutheran University holds fourth place with 102 points. The Lutes finished third in women’s swimming and fifth in men’s swimming while placing ninth in women’s basketball and tying for seventh in men’s basketball.

Linfield University rounds out the top five with 98 points. The Wildcats had a standout winter, winning the women’s basketball regular season title while also finishing third in men’s swimming, sixth in women’s swimming, and fifth in men’s basketball.

George Fox University sits sixth with 90 points, followed by Willamette University with 87 points. Pacific University (Oregon) is eighth with 70 points, and Lewis & Clark College rounds out the standings with 67 points.

The Northwest Conference All-Sports Trophy recognizes broad-based athletic excellence among NWC institutions across all varsity sports. Named for longtime conference leaders John Lewis and Jane McIlroy, the award honors comprehensive achievement throughout the academic year.
