Women’s Cross Country - Student-Athlete of the Week
Riley Buese I Lewis & Clark | SR | Denver, Colo. | Northfield
Buese finished fifth overall and first among DIII student-athletes in Saturday's season-opening meet. The Lewis & Clark senior led the field of 103 runners after the first 2K and placed fifth behind three DI student-athletes and an unattached runner. Her time of 13:58.0 was 22 seconds faster than the second DIII runner to cross the line.
Men’s Cross Country - Student-Athlete of the Week
Evan Markelz I Lewis & Clark | SO | Mountain View, Calif. | Mountain View
Markelz placed fourth overall and first among DIII runners on Saturday in the Pioneers season opener. The sophomore ran in the lead pack with all DI and NAIA runners the entire race and never fell outside the top-five. He finished the 6K course in 18:09.9 to finish behind three runners from DI University of Portland. His time was nearly 27 seconds faster than the next NWC runner to finish the course.
