Women’s Cross Country - Student-Athlete of the Week
Riley Buese I Lewis & Clark | SR | Denver, Colo. | Northfield
Buese set the program-record for fastest 6K time and finished second overall and first among DIII runners on Saturday at the Pacific Lutheran University Invitational. The senior improved up her career PR by 8.5 seconds to break Lewis & Clark Hall of Famer Amanda Phillips record which had stood since 2007. Buese's time of 21:13.30 was the fastest time by a DIII runner by 27.6 seconds and second only to a runner from Canadian school Trinity Western University.
Men’s Cross Country - Student-Athlete of the Week
Evan Markelz I Lewis & Clark | SO | Mountain View, Calif. | Mountain View
Markelz finished fourth overall and first among DIII runners on Saturday morning at the Pacific Lutheran University Invitational. He ran in the lead pack with two runners from DII Central Washington University and one runner from Canadian school Trinity Western for the entire race and never ranked lower than fourth. Markelz crossed the line in his first 8K of the season in 24:29.7 which was 23.2 seconds ahead of the next Division III runner.
