George Fox University senior golfer Alison Takamiya has been selected as the Northwest Conference Athlete of the Year for a women’s team, the conference announced Wednesday. Takamiya will continue on to be nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award and the Division III Commissioners Association Athlete of the Year.
The Northwest Conference Athlete of the Year award honors graduating student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service and leadership. To be eligible, a nominee must have competed and earned a varsity letter from their individual institution and have earned their undergraduate degree by summer 2024.
"I am extremely grateful to have been nominated for the Northwest Conference Athlete of the Year: Women's Team" said Takamiya. "This means a lot to me as I strive to start a career in professional golf. This accomplishment would not be possible without the love and support from my team, Coaches MJ and Rick, my parents and friends, and everyone else who has come out to watch any of our tournaments or follows along online. I feel very fortunate to have been selected as one of the many amazing women athletes our conference has!"
A native to Honolulu, Hawai’i, Takamiya studied Business Administration with a minor in graphic design. She is a three time Northwest Conference Player of the Year, having been the NWC Women’s Golf individual champion in 2021, 2023, and 2024. In 2021, Takamiya was the NWC Rookie of the Year and was named on the All-NWC First-Team all four years of competition.
Takamiya was the 2024 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Individual Champion, was a member of the 2023 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Champion Team, 2024 DIII Honda Athlete of the Year Award Finalist, 2022 US Women’s Amateur qualifier winner, and 2022 Division III Women’s Golf National Runner-Up.
In addition to her athletic achievements, Takamiya served as a junior leader at the Honolulu Christian Preschool, and volunteered for the Portland Classic social media, George Fox serve day, and the George Fox Business Bake Sale. She is a four time WGCA Academic All-American Scholar and a 4x Northwest Conference Scholar Athlete.
"We are so thrilled that Alison was chosen as the NWC Athlete of the Year: Women’s team and also is nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year award and the Division III Commissioners Association Athlete of the Year!” said George Fox head coach MaryJo McCloskey. “Alison has truly had a phenomenal year. What an incredible honor for her and George Fox to receive this latest NW Conference award! What makes Alison truly special though is that she isn’t about the awards, but she is completely dedicated to helping her team achieve great things as she continues to improve her game. Alison helped the team this year win the NW Conference Championship and then go on to achieve a fourth-place podium finish at the National Championship! She was medalist for both the National Preview, the NW Conference Championship and the National Championship!
Alison is a four-time first team All American, four-time WGCA Academic All-American, she is the 2023-24 PING National Player of the Year, the 2024 Honda Division III Athlete of the Year nominee and the Division III Juli Inkster Award winner. I am super proud of Alison and the entire team for pushing each other to keep growing and accomplishing more. It's very exciting for all of us!”
