Garcia & Pope Named NWC Softball Student Athletes of the Week

HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week in Softball for the week of April 22nd through April 29th.
 

Softball - Position - Student-Athlete of the Week
Paola Garcia I OF I Pacific Lutheran | SO | Downey, Calif.  I Warren

Garcia led the Lutes at the plate over the weekend, hitting .667 with six RBIs in a four-game sweep of Whitworth. Garcia currently has a six-game hitting streak and had multiple hits in all four games against the Pirates. Four of her eight hits on the weekend went for extra bases, including three doubles and a home run. 

Softball - Pitcher - Student-Athlete of the Week

Pope went 2-0 in three contests and struck out 14 over 12 innings to help Lewis & Clark sweep the University of Puget Sound. The sophomore posted a 0.58 ERA after allowing just nine hits, one walk and one run. In game two on Saturday, Pope went the opening five inning and held the Loggers to three singles and no walks in five shutout innings. She came back on Sunday and threw a scoreless frame to close out the opener. In the series finale, Pope struck out a season-high eight batters and limited Puget Sound to five hits, one walk and one run while getting all 18 outs.
