Takamiya & Lightle Named NWC Golf Student Athletes of the Week

HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week in Golf for the week of March 11th through March 18th.

 

Women’s Golf- Student-Athletes of the Week
Alison Takamiya I George Fox | SR | Honolulu, Hawai’i | Punahou

Takamiya was the medalist at the Willamette Valley Cup, helping guide the Bruin women's golf team to their first win of the spring season. Takamiya was the lone player of the tournament to shoot under par, totaling a score of 143 (-1) for the tournament. The senior was one of three players to shoot an eagle over the weekend, doing so in the first round on the par-five 13th. Alongside her eagle, Takamiya led the tournament with seven birdies over the 36 holes. Thanks in part to the senior's effort, the Bruins defeated five other NWC schools in Salem, taking down their closest conference competitors in Whitman by 71 strokes.

 

Men’s Golf- Student-Athlete of the Week
Preston Lightle I Willamette | FR | Victoria, B.C, Canada | Belmont Senior Secondary School

Lightle tied for first place during the Willamette Valley Cup at Creekside Golf Club in Salem with a score of 139. He shot a 1-over par 73 in the first round and then shot the tournament's low round with a 6-under par 66 in the second round. He took second place after losing on the first playoff hole to Bryden Brown from Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho). Lightle helped Willamette move up from 8th place in the team standings after 18 holes into 3rd place in the final standings.
