Meffert & Pierson Named NWC Baseball Student Athletes of the Week

HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week in Baseball for the week of March 11th through March 18th.

Baseball- Position - Student-Athlete of the Week
Noah Meffert I UTL I George Fox | JR | Coupeville, Wash.  I Oak Harbor

Meffert had one of the best weeks in recent George Fox memory in a a midweek matchup against UMass Boston and a weekend series against Pacific Lutheran. The junior finished the four games with a .526 (10-19) batting average, bringing in 12 RBI. Against UMass Boston, Meffert went 4-5 with two triples and six RBI, before hitting an additional triple and two home runs against the Lutes. His batting prowess against pacific Lutheran resulted in him being intentionally walked twice in game three against PLU. For the season, Meffert has five triples on his own, as many or more than every other team in the NWC. On the defensive side, Meffert shone as well, totaling six put-outs, 14 assists, and no errors. In the Bruins' 8-7 win on Sunday over the Lutes, Meffert stopped what appeared to be a surefire run in the eighth inning, completing a 7-6-2 relay and throwing out the runner at home. 

 

Baseball - Pitcher - Student-Athlete of the Week
Brett Pierson I P I Lewis & Clark | SR | Yorba Linda, Calif. | Orange Lutheran

Pierson put together the best start of his collegiate career to lead Lewis & Clark past Vassar College 12-1. The senior threw a career-high eight innings, struck out a career-high 13 batters and allowed just one hit and one unearned run. After allowing two of the first three runners to reach on an error and a softly-hit single, the senior ace retired the final 23 batters he faced. Pierson went over 200 career innings (206.2) in his 40th collegiate start.
