Horner & Holtz Named NWC Basketball Student-Athletes of the Week

The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week in Basketball for the week of December 2nd through December 9th.

Women’s Basketball - Student-Athlete of the Week
Gio Horner I G | Willamette | Fy | Missoula, Mont. | Loyola Sacred Heart HS

Horner led the Bearcats with 19 points and 9 rebounds in a 76-72 overtime victory over Lewis & Clark.  She was 6-12 from the field, 2-3 from beyond the arc, and 5-10 at the foul line.  She also had seven steals and two blocked shots, playing 39 of the 45 minutes in the game.  With the Bearcats trailing by two in the closing seconds, Horner hit a three from the corner to give Willamette a 65-64 lead.  In overtime, she scored four of Willamette's first six points to give them a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Jake Holtz I F | Whitworth | Gr | Kapolei, Hawaii | Damien Memorial

Holtz averaged 15.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game to lead Whitworth to a pair of come-from-behind wins at home last weekend over Belhaven and Hardin-Simmons.  Against HSU, the defending ASC regular season champions, he had 21 points and 10 boards to post the Pirates' first double-double of the season and hit the game clinching free throws with two seconds left.
