Women’s Basketball - Student-Athlete of the Week
Miki Vermeulen I F | Linfield | JR | Renton, Wash. | Liberty HS
Vermeulen has played a crucial role in Linfield's 5-0 start, its best start since the 2005 season. In the Wildcats' three games this week, the junior averaged 12 points and played incredible all-around basketball, totaling seven blocks and three steals. She also played efficiently, shooting the ball at a 54% clip. The Renton, Washington native leads the team in rebounds and averaged 10.3 boards last week, demonstrating her effort and all-around play.
Men’s Basketball - Student-Athlete of the Week
Ryder Hsiung I G | Willamette | SR | Honolulu, Hawaii | Punahou School
Hsiung led Willamette to wins in their opening two games of a Southern California road trip, starting with a 35-point outburst in a 101-90 win over Whittier College. In that game, Hsiung set the Willamette record for made three-point shots in a game with 10, breaking the old record of nine. For the game, he was 10-15 from three, 11-16 overall from the field, and 3-6 from the foul line. He also added four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. The next night, in a 77-71 win over previously unbeaten Chapman University, Hsiung scored seven points on 2-5 from the field and 2-2 from the line as the host Panthers focused most of their defensive attention on him and opened up the floor for his teammates. For the weekend, Hsiung averaged 21 ppg, 3 rpg, and 2 apg.
