Men’s Cross Country- Student-Athlete of the Week
Evan Markelz I Lewis & Clark | FR | Mountain View, Calif. | Mountain View
Markelz finished sixth overall and first among DIII runners in his collegiate debut on Friday at the Ash Creek Collegiate Meet. He was the first non Chico State runner to cross the line with a time of 18:03.1 - which is equivalent to the program record for a 4-mile race. Chico State finished 5th overall last year at the NCAA DII Championship Meet.
Women’s Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week
Riley Buese I Lewis & Clark | JR | Denver, Colo. | Northfield
Buese finished second overall and first among DIII runners at the Ash Creek Invitational. Racing against a field made up primarily of DII runners, Buese crossed the line in second place with a time of 17:53.1. Her mark is the second-fastest time in program history over 5K.
