Buese & Nelson Named NWC Women's Track & Field Student Athletes of the Week

HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week in Women’s Track & Field for the week of March 28th through April 3rd.

Women’s Track Student-Athlete of the Week

Riley Buese I Lewis & Clark College | SO | Denver, Colo. | Northfield

Buese ran the fastest time in the Northwest Conference this season in the 10K to finish 5th overall at the prestigious Mike Fanelli Classic on Thursday. Buese finished fifth in a field of Division I, II and NAIA runners with a time of 36:22.98. Her time was a PR of over a minute and broke the program record that had stood for over a decade. Buese currently sits first in the NWC in the event by over 40 seconds and ranks first in the West Region and 11th in NCAA Division III. 

 

Women’s Field Student-Athlete of the Week

Ava Nelson I Pacific Lutheran University  | Mossyrock, Wash. | Mossyrock

Nelson, the reigning NCAA Champion, remained undefeated in the javelin this spring, winning the event at the Pacific Open with a throw of 142'3". Nelson owns the top throw in NCAA D3 this season, a toss that is 10 inches better than the next best competitor.
