Menzer & Kelley Named NWC Softball Student-Athletes of the Week

HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week in softball for the week of March 13th through 20th.

 

Softball- Position Student-Athlete of the Week

Heather Menzer I Whitworth University | SR | San Diego, Calif. | Rancho Bernardo

Heather Menzer dominated at the plate over the weekend vs. UPS. She batted .636 (7 for 11) with six RBIs and five runs scored. She hit three home runs and added a double for a slugging average of 1.545. 


Softball- Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week

Tayah Kelley I Linfield University | SR | Myrtle Creek, Ore. | South Umpqua

Kelley went 3-0 and struck out 24 batters to lead Linfield to a perfect 6-0 record at the Pioneer Classic in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. The senior opened her week with six strikeouts in a six-inning, mercy-rule win over Calvin, allowing one run on three hits. She struck out eight more batters in a complete-game, two-hit shutout of No. 13 and host Transylvania. Kelley held No. 25 WashU scoreless through six innings but finished the game allowing three runs with seven punchouts to improve to 9-0 in the circle. She also made a relief appearance against Spalding in the Wildcats' final game of the tournament, striking out all three batters faced.
