HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week in Baseball for the week of March 7th through 13th.
Baseball- Position Student-Athlete of the Week
Will Heron I Lewis & Clark | SO | Carmichael, Calif.| Rio Americano
Heron went 4-11 with nine RBI and a walk-off, three-run double in the bottom of the ninth of game three to earn the series victory for Lewis & Clark College. The Pios first baseman finished with two runs, a double, a home run, a walk and a hit by pitch. On Sunday, he hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to provide some key insurance in a 12-7 win over Whitman. He tacked on three hits, one run and four RBI in the series finale. With the bases loaded and the Pioneers down two in the ninth, Heron blasted a double to right-center to clear the bases and send Lewis & Clark back to Portland in fourth place in the NWC (5-4).
Baseball- Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week
Ethan Whitney I George Fox| SR | P I Medford, Ore. | South Medford
Whitney showed out in the start at NCAA Division II opponent Saint Martin's, retiring the first 17 batters he faced. Whitney pitched 7.1 innings on the day, giving up just one hit and one run and striking out eight in the Bruins' 5-1 win over the Saints.
