Markelz & Berry Named NWC Cross Country Student Athletes of the Week

HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week in Cross Country for the week of October 9th through October 16th.

Men’s Cross Country- Student-Athlete of the Week
Evan Markelz I Lewis & Clark | FR | Mountain View, Calif. | Mountain View

Markelz ran the fastest time in program history and the fastest time of any NCAA DIII runner on Saturday at the George Oja Linfield Invitational. The Pioneers freshman finished fifth overall and third among NCAA runners with a new program record time of 24:08.4. His time beat the previous program record mark by 7.8 seconds which was set at last year's NWC Championship Meet. As a team, Lewis & Clark finished fourth overall and first among NWC schools. 

Women’s Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week
Annie Berry I Pacific (Ore.) | SR | Albany, Ore. | West Albany

Saturday at the George Oja Invitational in McMinnville, Annie Berry was the first Northwest Conference runner to cross the finish line. Berry placed 18th overall in the 6K women's race with a time of 22:10.6.
