2022 NWC Baseball Tournament Preview & Information

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Pacific University will host the 2022 Northwest Conference Postseason Tournament from April 22-24. The tournament will be held at Chuck Bafaro Stadium in Forest Grove, Ore.
 
The winner of the NWC Postseason Tournament be named the ‘NWC Baseball Tournament Champion’ and will receive automatic qualification for the NCAA Tournament.
 
Pacific University comes into the tournament as the top seed, finishing at 14-10 in conference play to become Co-Champions. After dropping their first two NWC series, the Boxers roared to the top of the standings by winning five consecutive series. Pacific enjoyed a pair of six-game win streaks, gaining some momentum before the final week of the season. Pitchers Tyler Agnew and Kahi Bisho headline the best pitching staff in the NWC, helping the Boxers to a league-leading 3.63 team ERA. Pacific has posted the third best offensive numbers in the conference, hitting .290 as a team with a conference-high 50 home runs.
 
Linfield was picked to finished eighth in the conference standings but the Wildcats proved to be the surprise of the 2022 season by earning a share of the NWC title. They come into the tournament playing some of their best baseball, as they have won three straight series including a huge series win over Pacific Lutheran in Tacoma on the final week of the season. Wildcats’ southpaw Colton Meyer leads the NWC with an ERA of 1.54 in his 17 relief appearances. Linfield’s leading hitter Branden Pasion takes a seven-game hitting streak into the postseason tournament with four multi-hit games over that span.
 
George Fox ended their conference schedule with two thrilling walk-off victories over Pacific to slide into third place in the standings. The Bruins rebounded from a tough start by taking three of their last four series and have claimed series wins over two tournament teams (Pacific and Pacific Lutheran) this season. Two-way standout Noah Meffert leads George Fox on both sides of the ball with a team-high batting average of .373 and ERA of 1.40. Spencer Roos and Jonathan Stone have provided some power in the middle of the order with four home runs apiece.
 
Pacific Lutheran won three of their first four NWC series but they have lost two straight heading into postseason play. The Lutes boast the most dangerous offense in the conference with an NWC-best .299 average. PLU has also impressed on the mound with a team ERA of 4.45. Noah Ferguson has four saves on the year and a team-high 2.56 ERA while Andy Schmitz has swung a hot bat, leading the team at his .347 clip. Cole Trotigon has mashed seven home runs while making an impact on the hill, picking up three wins from nine starts and 10 total appearances.
