Smith, Poppleton & Weires Named NWC Football Student-Athletes of the Week

HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week in football for the week of November 1st to November 7th.
 
Football Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week
Wyatt Smith | Linfield | SR | QB | McMinnville, OR | McMinnville High School
Smith led Linfield to a 77-7 win over Willamette in Salem. He completed 20 of 24 passes for 310 yards and seven touchdowns. He had a long pass of 49 yards, which connected with his brother, Colton, for his first touchdown pass of the afternoon. Smith's seven touchdowns tied for second-most in a game ever for the Wildcats, and he only played the first half.
 
Football Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week
Josh Poppleton | George Fox | SR | LB | Beaverton, OR | Beaverton High School
Josh Poppleton led the Bruins' defense against Lewis and Clark, recording 10 total tackles (7 solo and 3 assisted), 1 tackle for loss, a sack for a 5-yard loss, and an interception returned for a Touchdown. The interception was returned 100 yards, the longest of any TD return in GFU history.
 
Football Special Teams Student-Athlete of the Week
Collin Weires | Pacific | JR | P | Henderson, NV | Basic Academy
Collin Weires enjoyed another great weekend as Pacific's punter, dropping three punts inside the 20-yard line. Weires blasted a 50-yard punt and averaged 39.7 yards per punt.
