Weekend Softball Recap

Saturday, Mar. 2

Lewis & Clark 8, Willamette 5 (Game 1) 
Lewis & Clark 3, Willamette 2 (Game 2)
Lewis & Clark College took advantage of five Willamette University errors to score six unearned runs in the first game, and used a 3-run homer by Caitlin McCormick to win the second game, as the Pioneers swept a doubleheader from the Bearcats, 8-5 and 3-2, at the WU Softball Field on Saturday, Mar. 2.

Linfield 3, Pacific (Ore.) 0 (Game 1)
Linfield 9, Pacific (Ore.) 1 (F/5 Game 2)

Looking more like a nine-time champion, the Linfield Wildcats outhit and outpitched their Northwest Conference rivals, the Pacific Boxers, 3-0 and 9-1, in a twinbill Saturday at Linfield’s Del Smith Stadium. The second game was abbreviated to five innings by the eight-run rule.

Pacific Lutheran 12, Whitworth 1 (G/6 Game 1)
Pacific Lutheran 8, Whitworth 0 (Game 2)

The Whitworth softball team fell to Pacific Lutheran in a pair of doubleheaders in the home opener at Marks Field on Saturday afternoon. Whitworth falls to 5-7 on the season, 2-4 in Northwest Conference action, while Pacific Lutheran improves to a 4-2 overall and conference record.

Allyssa DenDekker and Erin Hento threw complete games and 
Courtney Howard and Rachel Fielder each had three-RBI games as the George Fox University Bruins opened their home season with a Northwest Conference softball doubleheader sweep of the University of Puget Sound Loggers 8-2 and 4-3 Saturday afternoon here at Morse Field.

Sunday, Mar. 3

Pacific (Ore.) 4, Willamette 3 (Game 1)
Pacific (Ore.) 5, Willamette 0 (Game 2)

The Pacific softball team pounded out 20 hits on the day and shutout Willamette in game two to take a 4-3 and 5-0 victory over the Bearcats in Northwest Conference softball action on Sunday afternoon at Sherman Larkins Stadium.

George Fox 1, Puget Sound 0 (F/9 Game 1)
George Fox 4, Puget Sound 3 (Game 2)

Completing a four-game sweep of their Northwest Conference-opening softball series, the George Fox University Bruins allowed only eight hits and squeezed out a pair of one-run victories over the visiting University of Puget Sound Loggers, 1-0 in the nine-inning opener and 4-3 in the second, Sunday afternoon here at Morse Field.

Pacific Lutheran 7, Whitworth 5 (Game 1)
Whitworth 7, Pacific Lutheran 6 (Game 2)

The Whitworth softball team bounced back from a 7-5 loss in game one by sending three balls over the outfield wall in game two to avoid the weekend sweep from Pacific Lutheran at Marks Field on Sunday afternoon. Whitworth improves to 6-8 on the season, 3-5 in Northwest Conference play, while Pacific Lutheran falls to a 5-3 mark both overall and in the NWC.

The Lewis & Clark women's softball team lost both its games to the #5 Linfield Wildcats. The Pioneers dropped the first game 8-0, then in the second game losing 6-0.
